“My fitness journey began December 21st 2012, I
found myself in the hospital with some internal bleeding issues. While I was in
triage they weighed me and I discovered that I was just about 225 lbs which was
the most I had ever been, and in that moment I decided once I got better I was
going to make some changes. Once the New Year began I made the same New Year’s
resolution that everyone makes; I want to get back into shape like when I was in
high school. But the difference for me was that I was determined to hit my
goal. On January 2nd I joined 24 hour fitness. At the time I was still very
anemic from losing close to half the blood in my body, so I started slow and
easy. After about 4 months I was down about 20 lbs, when I hit a wall. I had a
rough month and ended up gaining about 10 lbs back, this is when I was ready to
get back into it but I wanted to try something new.
My best friend, Alyssa Penzes, was working out at
this gym, they did a lot of high intensity type workouts and it sounded like a
lot fun. Coming from a sports background playing baseball and football my
entire life, having something that I can use to be active and be competitive in
is something that sounded perfect for me. So one day I showed up at Pick It Up Fitness and got set up for my first workout which was 4 rounds: 400m run, 10 pull
ups, 10 push presses at #115. That being said, I could barely do 200m, the black
band for pull ups, and #65 for push press with a time of 19:30, I was
completely wiped out, but I enjoyed it…a lot. Now after a little more than 3
months I can do all the pull ups, almost any prescribed weight, and can run
pretty well. I compared my new time for my first workout then and now, doing it prescribed is 14:30.
Now I can’t go a day without going to the gym, with my favorite workout being
‘Grace.’ I want to keep getting better, and with trainers like the ones at Pick It Up
it's hard to not want to succeed and show up every day. Now I am back down to
205lbs thanks to them and have never felt or looked better. I still have a ways to
hit my goal of 190lbs, but we all know that takes time.
The best advice I can give anyone
is to never give up on any goal, especially a fitness related one. Fitness goals
can take a long time but it’s a lifestyle change, not a one and done fix. Anything worth doing is never going to be easy.”
